The EP

by The Noble Son

This was an early effort to re-create the live looping project that was The Noble Son in the studio. Unfortunately, looking back at it now, I kind of see it as a bit of a failure.
I'm making this EP available as a free download more as an act of continuity than anything else. It's a document, a record of an idea, and a reflection of how far I believe I've come as a studio musician.

1.
Fresh mountain air, and the smell of Douglas fir. Black coffee and cherry pie. I want to know: who killed Laura Palmer? I'm in love with every girl in the town of Twin Peaks.
2.
The last time I thought about you, I was passed out on my kitchen floor, drunk again. The refrigerator door not quite closed. When I woke up I drank coffee with sour milk. It was a metaphor for what we used to be. I'm so sick of these drunken dreams.

about

The Noble Son was a project I started in Japan in 2005. Frustrated with having no band to play shows with, I starting writing songs meant to be played with a looping station. The idea was to be able to perform solo, but still be able to create a full sound. This was probably about the same time that Imogen Heap, Owen Pallett and loads of other musicians were thinking the same thing. (Can I say 'great minds think alike' without sounding too egotistical?)
In October 2006, I released a three-song EP. Not long after, I moved to Turkey. After half-heartedly keeping up the looping idea, I moved away from looping and starting viewing the studio itself as an instrument. Changing my ways felt like a sea-change; in January 2008, after the release of "The Shelf," I officially retired The Noble Son.
