The Shelf

Just before retiring The Noble Son, I went into Little Bullhorn Studios in Ottawa, in a second (and final) attempt to capture the sound of my guitar looping project. Unfortunately, Dave Draves - the very talented music producer behind Kathleen Edwards, Jim Bryson, Julie Doiron, and a host of others, and just a fantastic guy in general - didn't really know what to do with me.
What we did manage to do was get down some straight-forward folk-rock tunes. This song, "The Shelf," was the only one that I turned in for mastering.
Someday, I might take a stab at this song and some of the other acoustic tunes that turned out alright in those sessions. For now, enjoy this free track.

The Shelf 04:43
Someday you will find a better way. You will see what's wrong with you is wrong with me. You don't need all those things you once believed. They'll just do so much more harm to me and you. Put it back on the shelf.

about

The Noble Son was a project I started in Japan in 2005. Frustrated with having no band to play shows with, I starting writing songs meant to be played with a looping station. The idea was to be able to perform solo, but still be able to create a full sound. This was probably about the same time that Imogen Heap, Owen Pallett and loads of other musicians were thinking the same thing. (Can I say 'great minds think alike' without sounding too egotistical?)
In October 2006, I released a three-song EP. Not long after, I moved to Turkey. After half-heartedly keeping up the looping idea, I moved away from looping and starting viewing the studio itself as an instrument. Changing my ways felt like a sea-change; in January 2008, after the release of "The Shelf," I officially retired The Noble Son.
